A true understanding of container fleet dynamics is needed to fully appreciate all the factors in the industry.

With 2010 showing a rebound in the world's container fleet growth, things could be seen as slowly returning to normal, but how does this measure up against increased trade volume s and delivery of new containership tonnage? There must also be consideration for box manufacturing capacity which post 2009 has struggled to get back to normal operating levels.

In answering this Drewry highlights a current imbalance, indicating that container equipment shortages are currently being felt and could potentially run into 2012. Even with a projection of 9% teu annual fleet growth throughout 2011-2012.
