Client Background

  • Great Bear is a major 3rd party UK logistics business providing nationwide dedicated and shared user warehousing and distribution

 

Client Objective

  • Review Great Bear’s freight tender process and provide in-depth analysis of the container shipping market.

 

Drewry Approach and Tasks

  • Review the Request for Information (RFI), Request for Quotation (RFQ) and freight rate template documentation.
  • Provide a list of potential carriers and freight forwarders for the RFI.
  • Provide advice on best practice ocean freight procurement, including alternative pricing structures and contract durations.
  • Drewry reviewed the draft RFI, RFQ and rate template documentation and compared them against current industry best practice.
  • Drewry provided an in-depth market appraisal.

 

Results Achieved

  • Drewry identified 16 ocean carriers and several forwarders for consideration by the client.
  • Drewry identified opportunities to make greater use of feeder services.
  • Drewry highlighted a number of considerations for tender timing and strategy.
  • Great Bear was able to expand the number of providers asked to participate in the RFI.
  • Great Bear adopted a number of recommendations from Drewry which enhanced its ocean freight procurement processes.
  • Great Bear managed a successful ocean freight tender, with an expected saving of £350k per annum.
