Drewry was appointed to assess the impacts of the ongoing US-China trade war on the US containers sector. This looked at what has happened as a result of past tariff increases on containerised trade, and how this has affected throughput by major port/region. Drewry then projected the containers sector to 2030; Drewry first built a forecast without the trade war, then Drewry reflected what has happened to date and what was likely to happen based on announced future tariff increases. Drewry then projected volumes based on scenarios from a resolution of the trade war to continued escalation leading to permanent trade barriers remaining in place to 2030.
