Shipping market impact analysis

Client: Confidential (European law firm acting on behalf of a beneficial cargo owner (BCO))

A London-based law firm requested that Drewry provide an independent assessment of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Suez Canal “Ever Given” blockage in March 2021 and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, on the multipurpose vessel (MPV - heavy lift in particular) and container shipping markets and resultant freight costs.

Drewry provided a detailed report analysing recent trends in the MPV and container shipping markets, including impact analysis of the above Force Majeure events, comparing trends in MPV charter rates and container freight rates with the fees charged by the BCO’s contractor.
