Background

  • Faxaports, The Port Authority of Iceland manages five harbours that also handle small expedition vessels and cruise vessels call. There is presently no permanent facility for handling cruise passengers. Growth in calls has increased demands on the port.

Client Objectives

  • Faxaports as part of its development is evaluating future Cruise vessels berthing needs and engaged Drewry to assist in the evaluation of likely development in berth demand from Cruise ships at Sundahöfn.

Drewry Approach

  • Drewry carried out a review of Iceland cruise market and global cruise industry trends, a review of current cruise operations -key issues and challenges, review seasonality at annual and weekly basis to forecast likely development in cruise ship calls and future berth needs.

Results Achieved

  • Drewry provided a forecast of cruise calls split into turnaround and day calls, average and max length overall of cruise ships and those possible ships calling at Reykjavik Forecast future berth needs and berth utilisation.
