Productivity improvement in scrap loading

Approach

• Operation on board vessels was observed to understand why the productivity was low and evaluate the scope for improvement;
• It was noted that trucks were arriving at the port at irregular intervals;
• The client was asked to provide weighbridge data and the weighment time of trucks was analysed;
• Truck drivers were reprimanded for delays and continuous checks were made on truck arrival time.

Result Achieved

• The situation improved with trucks reaching the vessel more regularly, resulting in 29% improvement in productivity over a 3 month period.
