Philip supports Drewry’s reefer shipping research and advisory practice.
Philip has over 30-years’ experience in reefer shipping, having worked most of his professional life for one of the world’s largest specialist reefer vessel operators, Seatrade. Starting as a shipping clerk in his native port of Valparaiso, Chile, he moved to the northern port of Iquique to set up a new shipping agency, later focusing on frozen fish trades out of Chile and Argentina.
Philip then moved to Antwerp in Belgium to join Seatrade where he worked for 26 years, initially in operations and trade management before progressing into senior management commercial roles. The latter included working as managing director of SeaRed NV, responsible for Seatrade’s entire global network.
During this time, he developed business across multiple reefer commodities and trades, including South Africa, South America and North America. He expanded the company’s footprint by establishing new operations and joint ventures in the key reefer origin regions and spent a year in Tokyo overseeing the company’s’ Asia Pacific operations.
Philip is also Vice-Chairman of the Mission to Seafarers in Antwerp.
He has a degree in Transport Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso, and successfully completed the International Management Programme of the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School.
