Container terminal capacity benchmarking report

Client: Confidential (Major European shortsea port)

A major European shortsea port approached Drewry to provide a container terminal capacity benchmarking report to assess the extent to which its future container terminal capacity expansion plans promoted most efficient asset use.

Drewry prepared a detailed report, leveraging its extensive data sets and expertise on comparable container terminal operations, to explain the relevant operational benchmarks that relate to intensity of berth and yard utilisation, as well as demonstrate the trends in intensity of use of terminal berths and yard space over time.

The report identified similar European ports handling primarily shortsea and feeder traffic and generated berth and yard use benchmarks for these ports. It also identified similar size terminals from Drewry’s global database, particularly those achieving the highest intensity of berth and yard use for comparative purposes.

The client will use Drewry’s report to support its application to the relevant regulatory authorities to deliver for its planned the expansion projects.
