The European Union will be the first region to enforce “carbon taxes” in shipping via its Emission Trading System, which will penalise users of high-carbon fuels such as conventional fossil fuels and apply to shipments within Europe, as well as to and from Europe.
As the focus of commercial concern continues to shift away from inflated freight rates, many global shippers are now seeking to implement sustainability policies and measures within their procurement processes. The lack of consistency and visibility regarding carbon neutral shipping and associated costs is something on which all stakeholders; from shippers, ocean carriers, forwarders, regulatory bodies and consultants, need to find common ground.
Drewry is committed to this discussion and to help our clients implement sustainable ocean freight practices we have introduced a Carbon Tax and New Fuel Forecast Report which helps provide clarity in a rapidly developing and highly complex area.
Benefits of our new service to shippers include:
The service comprises of two key deliverables:
Working with 3 of the top 10 global retailers (National Retail Federation)
Access to an exclusive ocean freight cost benchmarking club comparing costs on over 14 million teu of freight
The first to publish benchmark container spot market freight rates back in 2006.
