Airfreight Price Index - August 2025
Our Airfreight Price Index is a weighted average of all-in airfreight "buy rates" paid by forwarders to airlines for standard service airport-to-airport airfreight services on 44 major East-West routes for cargoes above 1,000 kg. This Index is sourced from our new Airfreight Insight subscription service.

29 Aug: Despite the volatility caused by ongoing uncertainty over trade policies and tariffs, overall airfreight pricing has shown only moderate (mostly low single-digit) shifts from July to August - unlike the drop seen in ocean transport rates. The Drewry East-West Airfreight Price Index rose 1% overall. Rates were largely flat between Asia and Europe, as well as from the Middle East to Europe, while rising 2% in both directions between Asia and North America. Westbound transatlantic rates retreated owing to slowing demand and increased belly capacity.
Year-on-year the East-West Airfreight Price Index was down 11% in August, driven by bi-directional decreases between Asia and Europe as well as transpacific. This was to be expected in a traditionally slow season and the end of front-loading activity by US importers owing to tariff deadlines and elevated inventory costs resulting from the prior import surge. Moreover, 2024 volumes had been elevated by fears of a US port strike.
