Airfreight Price Index - April
Our Airfreight Price Index is a weighted average of all-in airfreight "buy rates" paid by forwarders to airlines for standard service airport-to-airport airfreight services on 44 major East-West routes for cargoes above 1,000 kg. This Index is sourced from our new Airfreight Insight subscription service.

30 Apr: Drewry’s Airfreight Rate Benchmarks show the average global rate per kilo climbed to $3.80, a rise of 11% over March and the index’s highest level this year. Pricing out of Asia rose 9% to Europe and 16% to North America over March levels, while inbound airfreight rates to Asia climbed 9% from North America and 14% out of Europe. Transatlantic pricing rose 3% eastbound but dropped 8% in the opposite direction. On an annual basis all three major corridors saw divergent directional dynamics, with double-digit increases from Asia to Europe and North America and on the eastbound transatlantic sector, whereas transpacific westbound rates were flat and pricing sank 4% from Europe to Asia and 5% on the westbound transatlantic sector. Although still on the rise, pricing momentum slowed in April.
