Client Objectives

  • Identify and quantify all the benefits of the planned dredging for various users.

  • Compare the benefits of channel dredging for all types and sizes of vessels that transit the port channel in terms user fee costs.

  • Determine whether the user fee cost would make the port a more expensive gateway than the key competitors in terms of total transport cost.

Methodology and Process

  • Reviewed existing operations, benefits from dredging and quantification of value.
  • Reviewed current port channel performance, capacity, and total system effects/savings.
  • Analysed future port channel performance and capacity as well as total system effects
  • Quantification of total benefits
  • Review with client

Scope and Deliverables

  • Overview of ship channel, transit process, rules and issues

  • Rationale for the dredging, benefits sought

  • Benefits of the dredge: Categories and quantifications

  • Analysis of port call lifecycle (current and future) to assess the incremental benefits by vessel type

  • Total system effects/savings

Result Achieved

  • Comprehensive quantitative analysis is done for direct benefit of the port dredging
  • Drewry also identified the indirect benefit of the port dredging, and analysed the total system benefit
