Background

  • The Client aimed to optimize its shipping operations and reduce costs across its subsidiaries.

  • The Client commissioned Drewry to identify and quantify improvements and to make recommendations for future improvements.

  • Drewry provided detailed reviews of cost, contract practice, and the supply chain organization, which included 5 key recommendations.

  • After exchanges between the client and Drewry, the Client approved these recommendations and asked Drewry to make a proposal for “Phase 2” expert support and work, jointly with the client group, to implement Phase 1 proposals and improve SC Management Strategy and Structure.

  • The Client created a transformation team which worked with Drewry’s expanded consultancy team, to implement some of the strategy proposed.

Client Objective

  • Container and dry bulk freight rate benchmarking

  • Improvement of Supply Chain Management strategy and structure

  • Nickel ore and Ferronickel shipment tendering advice

Drewry Approach

  • This study was conducted using a combination of discussions with the client, secondary research, and data analysis.
  • Drewry started by developing an understanding of the client objectives in a series of calls as it was undertaken during the Covid period. Subsequently, Drewry established the improved strategy by considering the constraints the Client faced. The strategy required a review of both container shipping, multipurpose shipping, and dry bulk shipping.

Results Achieved

  • Drewry presented a detailed report outlining the developed supply chain strategy, new organisations and detailed measures to implement the recommendations. The client went to implement some of the strategy proposed.
