Drewry Maritime Equity Indices - 18 August 2026

For the week ending 14 July 2026, both Drewry Infrastructure Equity Indices showed a mixed trend, while the Bulk Shipping Equity indices were on an uptrend (vs. 0.4% and 1.1% rise in S&P 500 and Russell 2000, respectively). The shipping market continues to be impacted by disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. Rerouting of Saudi cargoes toward the northern Red Sea exit, continued Houthi attacks and the prospect of a prolonged US naval blockade are keeping effective shipping capacity tight.

The Drewry Container Equity Index was the top performer, rising 6.4% during the week. The gain was primarily driven by a 21.1% WoW increase in AP Moller-Maersk’s share price following strong 2Q26 results and an upward revision to its 2026 earnings guidance. The Drewry Logistics Container Equity Index increased 2.0%, led by 7.4% and 5.9% gains in DSV’s and Kuehne+Nagel’ s share price, respectively. Kuehne+Nagel benefited from the announcement of a new Container Freight Station in Cambodia, which will support rising trade volumes and cargo efficiency.  In contrast, the Drewry Port Equity Index declined 1.6%, weighed down by falls of 1.3% and 3.3% in GTO and RTO, respectively. Meanwhile, all Bulk Shipping sectors posted gains. The Drewry Crude Tanker Equity Index advanced 5.2%, supported by higher Suezmax spot rates. In addition, Iran and Oman are reportedly close to reaching a final agreement on new shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz, which is expected to facilitate trade flows and support tanker demand. The Drewry LPG Shipping Equity Index rose 4.2%, led by a 10.1% WoW jump in StealthGas’ share price amid expectations of strong 2Q26 results.

On a YTD basis, infra-focused indices have delivered positive returns (Ports +29.6%, Container +15.8%, Logistics +5.4%). Within bulk shipping, the Drewry Crude Tanker Equity Index continues to be the top performer, up 78.6%, outperforming other segments (LPG: +60.5%, Dry Bulk: +48.9%, Product: +47.3%, LNG: +13.8%).
